Elders Climate Team

Leaving our children and grandchildren a world in better shape than we found it has been the hope of many over the centuries. That hope is fading today as the nuclear Doomsday Clock moves to 90 seconds from midnight and our very existence on the planet has been put in grave doubt by the unconscionable, massive, pillaging and depletion of so many of the planet’s core resources by the world’s largest corporations and governments.

But all is not bleak. There is a group of humans who possess the wisdom, intelligence, resources, and time, that could reverse the destruction and leave our children and grandchildren a habitable and beautiful planet home - our elders! The question is, will they continue to be sheep led to slaughter or will they have the passion, vision, and courage to get out of their easy chairs and comfortable lives to commit to a rescue?

There are no sheep in our interfaith Elders Climate Team. We are committed! And we’re counting on the wisdom that comes with age to ignite the anger and provide the courage needed to send a clear and constant message to the inept politicians and oil-soaked corporations that their pillaging days are over! Planet and climate abusers are especially not welcome in Washington, America’s greenest city, or in the other green cities and communities in the nation’s Capital area.

St. Augustine told us, “Hope has two beautiful daughters; their names are Anger and Courage.” We create that hope, through our prayer, picketing, and acts. We hope to inspire and embolden our brothers and sisters to act with us in anger - not hate - and with the courage to effect a rescue of God’s Garden, our planet home.

As members of the ECT or Elders Climate Team, we go to the streets because we believe our prayers to God should not only be done behind stone walls. We pray, picket, and act at DC’s busiest locations, on the very doorsteps of planet abusers. We implore the Creator of the universe to illumine our path with passion and light and to inspire others to join us. We fervently hope that thousands will join us and that, ultimately, we will convince planet abusers to become Mother Earth’s protectors.

The ECT is a mission of the Followers Community, an interfaith community of people of all ages who hear a call to connect their spiritual journeys more intentionally with nonviolent activism on behalf of our planet home. Followers is an interfaith community of unorganized religion that looks to Jesus and other great spiritual prophets and mentors for guidance, a community with a special heart for leaving a safe and habitable planet for our children. You are invited to join us and acquaint yourself with the resources on this website so we may share a common focus and deepen our conversations about community and climate.

FOSSIL FOOLS

The Elders Climate Team will focus on these climate abusers.

  • ⭐️Chase Bank. The world’s largest funder of fossil fuels, with $268B++ in oil investments since the 2016 Paris Agreement, needs to close its oil portfolio. Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Citibank, and 33 others need to do the same.

Fossil Fools!
"Longtime elder”, ECA founder Paul Weiss in 2019 in Oakhurst, California, outside one of California’s 993 Chase Bank branches. Millions of California acres were on fire (and still are!) and the state was choking from smoke (and still is) but Californians continue to pour money into the bank, funding more fossil fuels to create even more fires! The Golden State has become the Suicidal State!

⭐️ Governments & Politicians. We’ll focus on politicians who have been bought by the fossil fuel lobbies. Among other priorities, world governments need to convert $5TN global fossil fuel subsidies to renewable energy initiatives.

Schedule (on hold). No reservations needed. Come in peace and bring a sign. Rain or temp below 50f or over 95f cancels. As we make plans to come together in larger numbers, we’ll be praying and picketing for one hour on Mondays at noon at Chase Bank in Rosslyn, just steps from the Rosslyn Metro Station. Make a sign and join us or email me and let's start the conversation.

Mondays -(TBA)
Chase Bank - Rosslyn, VA
1700 N Moore St
Rosslyn Metro

Fridays - (TBA)
Chase Bank - Columbia Heights
